Thanks for sharing a bit of history from WWI SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. Unfortunately the war to end all wars didn't keep the peace very long.
Those daring young men in their flying machines seems to fit well with this piece of history.
In WWI chivalry among the pilots of aircraft was more common between enemies than for those who fought the ground war.

I'm surprised no one ever attributed these pilots and observers as "Iron Men and Wooden Planes" as sailors were known in earlier times.
