I wonder about his drug use. Was it recreational or was he trying to self medicate post injury of some kind? Not matter the reason the military cannot monitor every person 24/7, ultimately unless someone else was involved he chose the path that lead there.

Either way it is profoundly dangerous and results in death via respiratory arrest. And keep in mind the the most common clinical presentation is poly-sub abuse.

Fentanyl is a horrible drug to get hooked on. I have known many doctors and nurse anesthetist that have gotten hooked and several who overdosed and died. Fentanyl has a short 1/2 life in low doses. You rapidly build a tolerance. In high doses, which you rapidly build up too, the drug sequesters in the lungs and after 4 too 5 hours fentanyl has a redistribution phase. If you redoes at the start of the redistribution phase you will overdose. Drug dealers are now combining fentanyl with other drugs, people don’t know they are taking a potent narcotic and combined with alcohol can be lethal. Close the border and cut down on drug cartels money and power, the drug cartels now make more on human trafficking.
