As a youngster my dad was a 'company man' having obtained employment with the Republic Steel Corporation in Chicago. Needless to say he was anti labor and ppro-management. I grew up hating unions for unknown reasons always wonder 'why the workers didn't do what they were told and get to work.' Even cursory coverage of the labor movement in 2d semester HS history class didn't teach me anything. It wasn't until years later after reading a number of articles and accounts of the movement, such as this one, did I come to realize that it was the company, the owners, the management and often the gvt which were the real bad guys and it took a violent movement to change the system. Without the upheavals I now believe we would all be working for a dollar day and no overtime.
