If you’ve ever wanted to be the next H.G. Wells, this is your chance.
Army Training and Doctrine Command is hosting its inaugural Mad Scientist Science Fiction Writing Contest, according to a TRADOC press release. The topic for the competition is “Warfare in 2030 to 2050.”
Participants are asked to consider trends in science, technology, society, the global economy and other aspects, and how these trends will affect how the Army operates in future conflicts.
Writers can explore how future capabilities may be used during warfare, and TRADOC may use these ideas to research the future of technology and warfare.
The winning author will present at the 2017 Mad Scientist Conference in Washington, D.C., in August. Runner-up submissions will be published in one of several military journals.
The deadline is Feb. 15, and submissions can be emailed to Allison Winer at [login to see] . For story guidelines and more information about the contest, visit this website.

That is interesting SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL that TRADOC is hosting its inaugural Mad Scientist Science Fiction Writing Contest, according to a TRADOC press release. The topic for the competition is “Warfare in 2030 to 2050.”
Hopefully the results won't create a panic like the Radio reading of H.G. Wells classic "War of the Worlds" did on October 30, 1938.
Disclaimer: in the early 21st century I participated in exercises with OSD and the Military Services looking into mid-to-long term requirements while I was mobilized and after I demobilized.
