Yes, my friend CW5 Jack Cardwell in those days guns and howitzers were designed to fire across a battlefield. Zeppelins flew higher than rounds could reach - until fighter aircraft had machine guns synchronized with their propeller blades so they could fire straight at a target. By 1917 Zeppellens had been engaged and shot down by aircraft.
