My AIT drill sergeant threatened to Phase me to Black Phase so I can’t use the open door policy. Does she have this right? A lot of things she says seems like lies and near unethical. I hate not being able to trust my NCO and don’t feel she’s here to help. I feel like all she cares about is get a rise out of asserting her dominance over us. im a good student with a high gpa and I’ve never been counseled or been in any trouble. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Black phase? Geez, I'm old. We just had basic and AIT rolled into one (11B, Benning, Sand Hill)...and as for phases and all that, never crossed our mind. Just put our heads down, got through it, and moved on to jump school.
Why not just suck it up and move on when AIT is over?
You sound whiny, to be candid.
Unless you are physically threatened, suck it up.

11B, say no more. That helps me understand where you’re coming from. Thanks for your opinion. Have a great Army day, as they say.

Airborne SPC (Join to see). Also a Phi Beta Kappa w/degree in Philosophy.

We had a saying: aint about nothin'. Got us through a lot.

Challenges like the one you face are opportunities to learn about ourselves, our resilience, creativity, and strength.

They are moments to learn from poorly modeled leadership -- inside, you purpose to never let your troops feel what you are feeling under this NCO.

By sucking it up, you are taking the energy otherwise spent externally and focusing it inward to strengthen your personal leaderahip and resolve, to your benefit and the future benefit of the soldiers you will lead.

11B? Yes. Perhaps more wisdom from grunts than meets the eye. Perhaps more intent in a pithy "suck it up" than at first realized.

So...with intent, and in the spirit if encouragement and your own leadership development...suck it up.

And in your spare time, read a smattering of the great books in the Western Canon that teach us much about the human spirit.

Have a great Army day.

1. No One can restrict you from using the Open Door Policy, they can restrict, passes, phones, PX, snacks etc. Nor can they restrict you from seeing JAG or the EO NCO/Officer. Not knowing your NCO, I will not make a judgement call- you will have to live with her till AIT graduation.

Never heard of Black Phase. As a company clerk I would advise you that the open door policy is irrevocable. I can't help but wonder what is really going on here that your DS would get to this point
