As a former Drill Sergeant, I lived this life respectfully on the TRAIL!
I still have nightmares of Senior Drill Sergeant Jones-a COMMANDING Senior NCO!
High Salute to all that HAVE WORN THE PRESTIGIOUS CAMPAIGN HAT AND DRILL SERGEANT BADGE.
Becoming a DRILL SERGEANT IN DECEMBER 2005 and serving at Sandhill, Fort Benning GA; with C/2-47 IN "Charlie Rock, Panther Battalion". I owe it all to my Drill Sergeants and a lot more gratitude. Thanks for training me to fight, win and survive and what the word BATTLE BUDDY MEANS. Yea, didn't know then, but boyee did they watch my 6 and cover me while I moved (the U.S. Soldier).

Well I went through basic combat training as a 12B combat engineer trainee at Fort Leonard Wood beginning in November 1974. Gerald Ford was President and my Drill Sergeant's last name was Ford - I had two strikes against me going in. :-)
In 1985 and 1986 I was an infantry training company commander at Harmony Church, Fort Benning, Georgia then in 1987 I was Chief Test and Evaluation which consisted of me and 68 senior infantry NCOs who were all drill sergeant qualified and experienced at Sand Hill, Fort Benning, Georgia.
As I was leaving Fort Benning after serving finally as the USAITC Scheduling officer, two drill sergeants who had served with me in Germany stood up when the Deputy USAITC O-6 and me the CPT were being fare welled. Those NCOs stood up and testified about my dedication to soldiers and leadership which impressed the O-6 and others. Unfortunately one of those two NCOs was killed when he was a 1SG at Fort Campbell by one of his NCOs after redeploying - George Brewster was a friend and fellow infantryman.

DS asks the PVT a question. PVT should be at Parade Rest while answering the DS. DS asks said PVT "you can talk at Parade Rest"? PVT shuts up and looks ahead. DS then tells PVT "look at me when I'm talking to you"....PVT does, and DS asks "what fucking position allows you to look at me PVT". "DS you told me ....STFU PVT! Beat your face. There are a lot of things you don't want to be near in the Army; 120mm mortar when you drop the round in, motorpool Mondays, dispatch, CQ, the guy who cannot call for fire to save his life, and now is about to end yours in simulation the seventh time trying, CSM, 1SG you'd think are the worst, but it's that damn PSG who just got off the trail, knows ALL of the silly FF games, but forgot to leave that mess on the trail.
