Female Marine rifleman, machine gunner headed to the infantry

The Marine Corps has approved requests by two women to move into infantry military occupational specialties. One woman has been approved to become a rifleman and another to become a machine gunner, said Capt. Philip Kulczewski, a Marine spokesman at the Pentagon.

What is the Marine Corps motto? Adapt and overcome. That is what are going to do. It amazes me that you have older gentlemen here on RP who comes and puts female Marines down and for what? To get their 2 seconds of self worth? To get their rocks offline they used to? You have been out of the Marines for how long? Guess what gentlemen, the Marine Corps changes just like your wrinkling old bodies have been for however long you have been out. It's not like it was when you were in. Get over yourself. You putting down female Marines is what's wrong with the Corps then and now. What do you really gain? You gain nothing. You putting down female Marines makes you nothing. United we stand or divided we fall.

Cpl McGuinness, I did get that impression based on the tone and content. Most of the comments I've read express reservations but are accepting on the premise that if the individual is able then so be it. And that the opinions expressed in these forums, for the most part, are based on the individual authors experiences, and sincerely felt, and shouldn't be passed off as,"...To get their 2 seconds of self worth..."

Cpl Sidun you are right. If they want to be part of the gun club they need to do everything the men do. Don't change anything to accommodate. But if they do then welcome to the Infantry.

Not a Marine (20+ years Army Infantry) Ive seen a few female's step up and do a better job of soldiering then some of their male counterparts. I'll admit, being old school infantry, that it couldnt be done. Until a female M.P saved our asses putting down acurite suppressive fire with her MK-19 in Somalia. If you want it bad enough, it doesnt matter if youre a female. Just leave the ones who'd rather get pregnant than deploy in the rear with the gear.
