I'm PCSing to Camp Roberts soon...what can I expect? Anyone have any info to share?

So I'm supposed to be coming this way in the near future... I'm pcs-ing to cp roberts soon and I'm just trying to figure out what to expect...

I used to support a unit out there, not there anymore... there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING there. The place is so run down that it looks as though it is going to fall down with the next stiff breeze. The eco-nuts have prevented the updating of the base, so plan driving to get home every night. You will have a lot of time to decompress on your drive home every day, since even the scenery is dull and drab.
My only question is who you pissed off to get such an assignment? 5th SIG is not a cake-walk assignment, but I am not sure it deserves Cp Roberts.

Wow, are they sure the red foxes have all left?? I know that was a huge deal the last time I was out there. It is good that something is being done, that place looked like a ghost town.

Idk who I pissed off haha. I was slotted to go to Carson. There was a mess up with an erroneous flag placement on my record. It got my orders pulled. This was what replaced it 2 weeks later. *sigh*

CW3 Eric W. S. - Th Kit fox population was not the issue. It was asbestos. The old barracks and buildings were loaded with it. they were able to find a cost effective solution to this and remove the dilapidated buildings and structures. They have also since renovated many buildings, underground infrastructure and have even started work renovated the old airfield across the highway at east garrison.

If you are SATCOM Don't worry, 45 to the beach and 3hrs-3.5hrs to Sierra Summit(Skiing & Snowboarding) or Yosemite National Park. Our Barracks were Townhouses in town now this was in 87.

I visited that place a good number of times going to and coming from CSTX/WAREX exercises at FT Hunter Ligget. I was not impressed with Roberts. Very few amenities, especially when all the Soldiers for those exercises are coming and going are all on base.
