Reclassing to 11C. Do I have to pick 11X and hope for the best?

11C is an MOS. As for being prior service, you have to remember that when you go to MEPS, you fall under prior service business rules. Usually always processed last for job picks. Which means that the initial enlistees pick what they want and prior service gets what's left.

SPC (Join to see) there is no "holding your ground". The MEPS counselor doesn't care what you choose, they don't get a commission, they just show you what's available to you.
If you're coming through the MEPS and you ask for infantry you get 11X. Period. Your whole class will be qualified as 11Bs and a few will be selected to go to additional training to be 11C. The only people who are guaranteed 11C are in service reclasses

SSG Edward Tilton - that was the 4.2 inch rifled mortars. I used them as an 11C. The range on them was over 5000 meters yeah mortars were light artillery. Its what we had.

11X is for initial entry Soldiers, like 18X. It's a CMF entrance and then the actual MOS is slotted later. If you are going to 11C then you are already slotted to be an 11C

Line scores determine who's selected to Charlie unless you get it guarantee in your contract, which isn't unheard of but here's a fun fact. On any given day there are only about 8,000 active duty 11C in service. We be the smart grunts, With the gear in the rear isn't just a saying.
