Good Friday morning Kerry and Remember Everyone Deployed. It's been a tough week. I for one, am grateful it is Friday. We plan to visit with family but I am also on call for Red Cross; so much going on that we are pretty much all available hands to standby status. I am a grief and loss counselor and I have made myself available to others as much as possible but I also recognize the need to step back and take a break so I will not take any calls on Saturday- it's my recharge day. It's important to recognize and respect your limits otherwise you are no use to yourself or anyone else. Recharging/self care isn't selfish, it is survival. Have a good weekend and take a moment to remember those who paid the price so we could have this weekend and all the other weekends.

I hope you and those who love and depend on you are well-rested. No doubt you understand the importance of sufficient rest. I hope that our transparency in sharing experiences, lessons learned, and answers to prayer of our life story to family members, friends and others encourages them to share as well. Hopefully you and I will continue to share how the LORD has blessed and delivered us in the past with any willing to listen. I expect that you like I try to demonstrate faith in God more than speak about it. ‘I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old, things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.’ [Psalm 78:2-4 ESV] my sister-in-Christ Lt Col Charlie Brown

I pray that each and every one of YOUR adopted sons and daughters who is a parent or guardian is able to rest sufficiently especially those charged with raising infants and toddlers. I lift single-parents of infants and toddlers to YOU LORD. I pray that YOU motivate grandparents and other single parents to offer help, moral support, and adult conversation in person or telephonically. ‘Sweet is the sleep of a laborer, whether he eats little or much,’ [Ecclesiastes 5:12a ESV]

LORD, I pray YOU prompt each of YOUR adopted sons and daughters who reads or listens to this prayer to share our personal testimony of our experiences in our walk of faith. Remind us to write down our memories while we still remember. Motivate each of us to write down on paper, add notes to photographs, and other records of our personal life story. Help us to encourage and guide those we love to share their own testimonies and experiences transparently ‘For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.” John 14:24-26 ESV]

Thank you, LORD for YOUR perfect design of human beings. Although sin has infected creation, YOUR incarnation as the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, resulted in the sinless Jesus who became the Christ. YOUR atonement cleanses each adopted son and daughter of the guilt of sin and justifies each of us in YOUR scales of justice. ‘the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.’ [Romans 3:22-25 ESV]

LORD, I lift deployed service members and other individuals separated from family and friends to YOU. I pray that YOU prompt each to write letters and cards to loved ones, to save those letters, cards, photographs in safe places including more permanent capabilities to save and retrieve. ‘I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another. But on some points, I have written to you very boldly by way of reminder, because of the grace given me by God, [Romans 15:14-15 ESV]

I pray that you and your family members sleep well Friday night and each will awake refreshed and healthy on Saturday morning.
By the power and authority of the Name above all names, Jesus the Christ.

I love that you know your limits Lt Col Charlie Brown. Grief and loss counseling is rewarding but exhausting work. The empathy of it batters and bruises the emotions. I cringe when observing people over-committing without knowing they are. It paves the way for mediocrity to not delegate when possible.
My first roommate in college said her Dad, a high school principle, used to tell her to take a rest from "excess allocation of mental resources" to recharge her batteries. I never forgot that since his sense of humor was so much like my Dad's. Catchy way to say you need to "chill" - especially important during trying times.

Thank you my friend and brother-in-Christ Sgt (Join to see) for posting the the “Colonel’s” VFV Motivational/Inspirational Quotes & Message of the Day and Week! for Friday, May 27, 2022

Weekend Day.
We were designed by God to need periodic rest/sleep.
1. The amount required varies throughout our lifetime: Infants, young lovers, the aged.
2. The sabbath was created for man. It is a time of resting not a legalistic anything :-)
3. I require medication to sleep and have so for many years.

LORD, I lifting grieving widows and widowers to you CSM Charles Hayden SGT Mark Anderson, PO2 (Join to see), SPC Diana D., Diana Kuzinski and Barbara Reynolds and others grieving including orphans, divorces and others abandoned. Enable them to share their life story with loved ones, free from pain, guilt and grief. I pray that each is able to complete their grieving and that joy will punctuate their soul/spirit whenever needed. 'Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.' [James 1:27 ESV]

Quotes I appreciate
1. Teresa of Avila 'Love turns work into rest.'
2. John Lubbock 'Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky'
3. Augustine of Hippo 'Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee.' Augustine of Hippo, Confessions
4. Charles Haddon Spurgeon 'Earth has no words that can convey the holy calm of a soul leaning on Jesus.'

Scriptures:
a. Matthew 11:28-30 ESV 'Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
b. Hebrews 4:8-11 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on. So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest
c. Psalm 80:19 ESV 'Restore us, O LORD God of hosts! Let your face shine, that we may be saved!
d. Joel 2:25-26 ESV ‘I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you.’ You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, who has dealt wondrously with you.
And my people shall never again be put to shame.’
e. Psalm 51:10-12 ESV ‘Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit.'
f. Mark 2:27 ESV 'And he said to them, 'The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.'
g. Galatians 5:22-24 ESV 'But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.’
