I am headed to FA school in a week and a half. I am a prior service Marine MP and am retaining my rank as Sgt (E-5). Any advice or insight on what to expect?

Learn everything possible about your new job. Being an Artilleryman is a very easy job, you just have to dig into the TM's and FM's. Especially when you get to your new unit. As an E-5, Sergeant, you'll be expected to know more than just what they taught you in AIT. AIT is very easy, just do what your told and be where you are told to be. The hard part is learning more about your MOS after AIT.

Exactly, we spend a lot of time in the field. Be prepared for that. Like weeks at a time.

Heck yea 13b spends a ton of time in the field always getting your certifications done over and over again. Loved every minute of it. To bad I somehow got leukemia while in Iraq.

Heavy lifting! All kidding aside, keep in shape, you'll be happy you did. In the event that you get to hump the M198 155mm Howitzer, remember this post

If you’re on 119 the rounds are much lighter and easier to load

Redlegs!! Born in the darkness. We don't need no light!! Ft Sill is awful hot and dusty this time of year. Was there for OR IT in 84 , and I'm sure it hasn't changed much. Good luck sarge!!

I was there in winter 86 for basic and AIT. It was my first exposure to the military and I learned a lot. However, I was not made to be an artillery guy. I later went on to 11series then 18series
