I've recently gotten the opportunity to reclass into a 14G for my E5. Before deciding to reclass though i would like to know what I'd be doing. GoArmy makes it seem like you will actually be involved in combat, but the videos make it seem like you just sit and stare at a computer. Can someone tell me what to expect if i went into this MOS

I have been a 14G for four years now and I absolutely love my job. Honestly your experience will depend on what echelon level you are in at your next unit. I am at a Headquarters Battery and I have operated in a line unit, as well as mobilized in support of Operation Nobel Eagle. At a line unit, most of your work will be operated in a field environment and in a real war moving with the front line. That entails moving the radar and shelter every day and re-emplacing the equipment. Also at that level you typically will be in a four man team operating an FMTV/Sentinel and a shelter. Your mission is to continuously relay the real time air picture which is tracking cruise missiles, helos, and fixed wing aircraft in order for the next higher echelon to process intelligence and deconflict the airspace with FA and the air force. This is also where I get the most enjoyment out of my mos, because it is a field environment but at the same time we are operating computers, radios, and the radar.

Any other level you could be sitting in a battery, battalion, regiment, TOC providing air track updates to the commanders so that they can properly adjust fire to the situation. This includes analyzing when and where air tracks are populating within our area of operation and condensing the radar data from several sentinel sites in to one large air picture that is used at the division level for battlefield planning. In short, there is far more that goes in to being a Gulf that is too much to explain in one sitting and that I absolutely love my job.

My son will be graduating AIT soon. Can you tell me where 14G’s are most commonly stationed ? Stateside and/or overseas?

So when I went through AIT a few years ago every other class would be stationed in Korea. While the following class would be stationed in Europe or the US. A majority went to FT Bliss and Sill. With onesies and twosies going to 10th MTN in New York and to the 173rd Airborne in Italy and whatever unit is in Germany.SPC Ralph Saldivar

Lol, thank you. He’s praying for Bliss because his brother (11B) w/ 1AD is there and that’s where I was 30 years ago 3ACR- no longer there.

SPC (Join to see) I was medically reclassified as Ssg to 14G, I was a 12B at the time. It was the best thing that ever happened to me as a Soldier. In the five years I have in the branch, I have realized how good the ADA branch is. Also, 14G MOS is a feeder MOS into warrant Officer. Career opportunities are great, I was able to complete my AA, BA, and I am working towards my Master's. You can be stationed in great locations such as Japan, Guam, Germany, and Hawai'i. I will definitely recommend you to look into the MOS. Furthermore, companies like Lockheed Martin and Raytheon are always looking for former Airdefenders to add to their teams.

Sit and stare at a computer is fairly accurate

Sorry to hear that you are not doing the fun part of the MOS, but part of managing the systems requires that someone sits in front of systems and operate the thing. In 8 or 9 years when you get selected for SFC or CW you might look back and realize how much it was worth.

Oh I’m sure further in my career I’ll do a lot more but I just know as a junior enlisted that’s all I do now. I’m looking forward to advancing in my MOS and possibly one day going CW
