I read this and really to be honest I wasn't surprised. Selection is a killer but it is for those that are capable and willing. If they get selected it would be great. If they don't they tried their best. Either way they get their shot. This is something that I am a bit curious about. I know there is a very challenging ruck march in selection. It is well beyond twelve miles. From most the studies this has been a point of contention in their ability to prefer. The Marines found most don't do very well here. This is most evident in their Infantry officer course. But that doesn't mean they are hopeless. I just hope this attracts the right people. I say the same thing in relation to the males that want to go SF. It is not about just getting a Green Beret it is more about being a member of an elite team and offering your services in a unique setting.

They have a long way to go before attaining a Special Forces tab, CPT (Join to see). The end of the article reads, "Before approval for SFAS, soldiers must pass Special Forces Readiness Assessment, a base-level test of a soldier’s physical fitness. The push-up, sit-up, pull-up and running benchmarks considerably outstrip Army Physical Fitness Test requirements to filter out anyone who might be physically overwhelmed by training requirements. There is no requirement difference based on gender or age, and all who even apply to SFAS must pass...The bulk of the path to earning a Special Forces tab remains in front of them after their application is accepted: the 3-week SFAS itself, Airborne School if not qualified, either Maneuver Captain’s Career Course or Special Operations Captain’s Career Course (12-16 weeks), and finally the 64-week Special Forces Qualification Course."

I, personally, couldn't care less about gender, but the ability to perform in the field at a top level. If the go through the exact same training and assignments as their peers, congratulations.

This Washington Times article is old news, I know, but it does follow on to the original article that I shared as a link from the Army Times. The article mentions that first of two selected females failed SFAS. However, I have heard no news nor have been able to find anything about the other female candidate. Does anyone have any insight as to the status of the remaining female candidate(s)? Interestingly enough, the Army Times article indicated two female officers, yet the Washington Times article indicates that an enlisted woman failed the course. I'm confused!
