I belonged to HHC 1-185 Armor CAARNG. Here I am with my OCS buddy 1LT Alex Santiago. We were at the wash racks at Yakima. It was a nice way to stay cool! I did not know him. Not sure if you knew BG General Portante. I met MG Zysk the day I Commissioned in 8/96. They may have been Lt or Captains when you retired. BG Portante was once the BC of 1/185 AR.

LTC (Join to see) I seem to recall LTC Guidio Portante as the G-3, 40th ID, prior to my retirement. Heck, I cannot even recall the G-3 SGM!

CSM Charles Hayden Yes, Guido was a short 1 Star General in 1994! His Kevlar Helmet was at my Nose Level. He came to inspect us at the 40th MP Company in late 1994. I met him again with retired MG Hernandez on the 8th of August, 1996 the date of my Commission.

During my 6 yr break in Naval Service I was in the Cal National Guard. We were a Combat Engineer unit up in Susanville, Ca. Was with them from 79-81 when I reenlisted back into the Navy Seabees which is what my first 4 yrs were with. But I did enjoy being in the guard unit.
