I leave for BMT in a few weeks and I have chosen 19D as my MOS. I did not see Airborne on my contract, but I'm still questioning whether specific Scouts are chosen for jump school or if you earn the right. Please let me know, and added info/tips are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

There are airborne units in the Army, they need scouts, therefore, there are scouts who go to jump school. The rest of us just prefer to ride into battle rather than jump in and walk everywhere.

So to answer your question, no, not everyone goes to jump school.

Airborne is not a basic requirement for the MOS. A person would have to apply for that in addition to regular training.

I always thought parachute riggers had to be airborne qualified. Something about jumping with the chutes they rigged. I could be wrong and that just a myth. Never looked into it.
As far as Cav Scouts, there are probably hundreds more non-airborne 19Ds than there are jump qualified ones.

I would not want to jump a chute that the person that packed it was not willing to Jump it. Yes Riggers in the 1975-1995 time frame had to be airborne?

riggers are still always airborne. that would be insane to have a parachute rigger not even know how to jump the chutes he or she packed

There are a few airborne cavalry units. The 1/91 CAV are the scouts for the 173d ABN; the 1/73, 3/73, and 5/73 CAV are the scouts for the 82d ABN, the 1/40 CAV are the scouts for the 4th BCT (ABN) - 25th ID.

SSG (Join to see) - Correct, but only the scout platoons of Airborne Infantry Battalions - regular Infantry Battalions will not have a requirement for jump-qualified scouts.

correct, but, it's pretty much implied at this point that we are discussing airborne battalions and not anything else.

SSG (Join to see) - In light units the BN "Scout" platoons are full of infantry. It's not like in an ABCT where HHC has a platoon of 19Ds, they use 11Bs. An IBCT has a mix of Cavalry and Infantry "scouts". Only the RSTA squadron has the Scouts, and only 2 troops of em.
In theory - the cav would do the deep recon, the infantry "scouts" would do the short range recon, and then the main effort would follow.

CW2 (Join to see) - great, I'm just pointing out that scouts go to more than just cav units.
