A Major in the Army National Guard was asking me about the career path and opportunities as a TPU. I came in when it was still a functional area back in 2006 so we both can learn from this. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to everybody!

Not for an LTC.
MAJ need a waiver. There are two paths- 38G for personnel with the right degrees and experience. This path is short.
38A is conventional reclassification with 4 phases.

I helped a MAJ in my company go to CAQC with no issues. Can't speak to today's environment, but due to the lack of 38As in the RC, it was pretty much automatic to give them a shot.

Preferably we recruited LT. and CPT. So they start at team level. A Major can apply for waiver but don’t count on it. No to LTC. The only way would be a 38G which is based on civilian education and/or profession. 38G have experience in Public administration, Lawyers, Police, educators, public health, economics, engineers in public utilities etc

What about signing on as an Agriculture Adviser, with PhD. served with 3-5 ADTs in Afghanistan from 2009-2013 as CEW Gs-15? I currently serve as Professor of Forestry and I have done reforestation, irrigation development, erosion control and watershed assessments across Afghanistan, Morocco, the Carribean and Europe. Prior service 1986-1994 as 82C3P, Field Artillery Surveyor deployed to Panama and Venezuela. Did I mention I'm 52 yr old and in excellent shape and advise a collegiate shooting team?

I moved into the USAR from NGB and within three months I was branch transferred into Cyber. So, if he/she finds a CA slot they should be able to slide in. Major is a good rank to transfer over. The recruiter should be able to help out with finding a slot.

Sir, the person of interest wants to do it as an LTC. Will that be an impediment? Even though soldiers as high as Colonel can transfer, will it be tough for a lieutenant colonel? Thanks for the quick answer!

I had a CA BN under my command recently. I was told that transferring as a Colonel was nearly impossible. As an LTC without command my be a bit difficult but it all goes back to finding and being accepted into the slot. Need to find a sponsor at USACAPOC. LTC (Join to see)
