I think they should try something radically different for this test. Make it pass/fail, like the height/weight standard. If the test truly represents a level of fitness required to successfully perform your job in combat, then either a soldier can physically perform to the standard or they can't. Have different scores required for different MOS, as needed, and you can have a scoring scale for things like unit competitions or whatever. But as far as an effect on a soldiers career, a higher score shouldn't gain a soldier more promotion points, etc. anymore than you get more points for being 10 lbs under the screening weight than if you are one pound under.

This would eliminate units simply training to the test during PT sessions, and allow them to conduct varied and challenging PT instead of just rehearsing the test.

The test once FOC will be pass/fail. If you fail, you will exit the service. The scoring is still being worked out but due to the correlation to combat performance, we don't mind if people train to the test anymore!

Charles I have no idea how many PT test I have taken over the years. I guess it was better than nothing but I always felt it could be improved. It was never a huge deal in SF for the simple reason we are so physical that it becomes painfully obvious when a guy is not up to the job physically. Hey good luck

LTC Jeff Shearer funny/true story. While in TRADOC my first time, I took a PT test every Monday for 2 years because that's what my trainees and DS did. Then I spent 3 years in SF and took 2 PT tests the whole time...

While at Group, I helped bring the THOR3 program. The ACFT is part of a whole systematic change that will bring the THOR3 concept, facilities and personnel to big army Soldiers. I could not be more proud to be a part of this.

BTW, I'm the new director of the US Army Physical Fitness School at FJSC. We are the proponent for physical training in the Army.

Looks interesting sir, exercise is great therapy.
