My wife is interested in direct commission as a 70B. How competitive/difficult is it to do this?

The real answer is “it depends.” All basic MSC officers start as 70B. Direct commissions for MSC are more common in Compo 2 (NG) but vary by State. Less common in Compo 3 (AR) and virtually impossible in Compo 1 (AD). Contact an AMEDD recruiter.

SPC Joshua Schiff you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Recommend going at it hard and fast while preparing to follow through on a yes. Is it a done deal? Hardly. If something being "difficult" is the cut line for her decision, recommend abandoning this immediately. Perhaps selecting something with a league night and matching shirts.
If she is determined to commission, she may want to pursue OCS or an ROTC option. There are a ton of people on here that have pursued this very option. They seem to spring up out of the ground waiting for the scroll to get published.
