Once you do meet the requirements, the SRR for recruiting is 36 months.

If I'm not mistaken, I can extend my contract if needed?

SGT (Join to see) yes. The way the military works is you are given an assignment, that assignment carries a service obligation. You either accept it and extend your contract or decline it and get out. All branches work in this manner for enlisted

Apply for an extension to my contract to meet the 36-month requirement. But the real question is less than 18 months at a duty station do I qualify?

You will need to extend. As far as your time on station goes you’re fine. I did it with less than 2 years on station.
