I am currently at 35M AIT at Fort Huachuca AZ. I have both DLI and Option 40 in my contract, but I don't know which one I will be attending first. This is what I've been told by the cadre here:

If you qualify for a cat 4 language (which I did), you will be assigned a cat 4 language.

If you spend a year away from the ranger regiment you are no longer in it.

Cat 4 languages are year long courses.

If you don't already have a language when you get to the regiment, you won't be given one (despite the fact that a language is now a MOS requirement for the rest of the army)

But rumor has it that I'll be going to rasp before DLI. Which doesn't make a lot of sense considering all of that.

So my question is if anyone knows for certain whether I'll be going to rasp or DLI first? And if I am going to rasp first, assuming I pass, will they simply assign me a language with a course that's shorter than a year? Or will I still get a cat 4 language without being put out of the regiment.

Thank you for the help!

All my 35M buddies with option 40 went straight to RASP after AIT. After passing RASP they got sent to other schools. No word yet on when they would be coming to DLI.

the difference is that he has DLI in his contract. Did your buddies have DLI in their contract or did they trust that regiment would send them because its a requirement?

Also, I qualify for a cat 4 language and got a cat 1... I’m also in class with others of the same and know others who didn’t qualify for car 4 and still got a cat 4.

I would double check that you have both.
Though you'll more than likely go to DLI first. I was scheduled to go to airborne and they pushed that back and after my DLI.
If you fail, the regiment will still take you. It's in your contract. I know a 35M ranger without a language. I recommend not failing though if you can prevent it because it'll make your life easier.

Also Cat 4 languages are close to 2 years long. Keep in mind all the holidays/ class break and it adds up extra time you'll be here. Not to mention many students don't start their classes right away. I know someone who waited 6 months for their classes to start while I only waited 3 weeks.
