Can I be a Military Police if I have a criminal record?

Good info SGM Steve Wettstein, I was an MP for 6 or 7 years but I never had to answer the questions the above soldier will have to,

CPT (Join to see) - Not lately they don't just give anyone clearances - and I heard last year they were going to audit all the S and TS/SCI clearances to see who actually still needs them. If they don't need it - they'll get it pulled.

I have been seeing people getting access suspended for TS/SCI a lot lately. A few failed UAs. A few sexual assault charges.

SFC (Join to see) - Yeah, from what I heard, we had almost half of our state TS dropped to S because of the audit. I haven't heard of anyone losing a S. The only TS I have seen suspended due to misconduct is if it wasn't mentioned during the last investigation, or if it occurred during the interim. I've read some of the adjudication reports online a couple years ago, and they were granting S and even TS with sexual assaults, child pornography charges, etc. Crazy stuff.

SPC Merian Jordan - Whether civilian or military - security clearance rules don't differ. It depends on the investigator and the whole person standard for everyone. He could very well get denied a Secret.

SPC Merian Jordan - I've been a BN and BDE S2/Security Manager and I'm an SSR now. I have seen people get denied interims for things like that. I have seen people get denied interim SCI and they don't have anything show up on a LEC check but DoD CAF found something in the adjudication search.

Is there a possibility for a Secret they could get it? Sure - but there is a possibility he couldn't. Ultimately he needs to talk to the career counselor at his unit about this. Not social media.

I also never said they'd deny the OP 'just because.' Never once did I say that. I highly doubt since the downturn of OIF/OEF that there are "a lot of" people still in with criminal records.

GySgt Thomas Vick Gunny great points. When I was going through MEPS I was told that if I got another ticket (only had one) my contract would be voided. In 05-09, during the surge, they were taking everyone and their brother. MPs were able to get initial contracts for 2 years (might have been 3). It is usually 4-5 depending on how many FNGs they needed. We had a lot of shitheads during that time.

SGM Steve Wettstein - I voided my contract at MEPS, went open in 78. Didn't want to lie, and I had gotten too close to the fire (smoke) while on last few months of self-destruction tour waiting to ship. Didn't want a bus ride home from PI a few weeks later, so I skipped the bright lights and rubber hose routine at ENTNAC. It all worked out. Honesty is often the best policy. Worked for me, but still requires one putting in the work. They were kicking folks out after NAM and I filled a slot. Same as many more.
