Is it just me, or does it drive anyone else crazy to see individuals (on here included) who have not simply educated themselves on spelling and grammar? I am mostly and especially referring to Senior NCOs who, in theory, should have years of experience utilizing the Army Writing Style and articulation when constructing evaluation reports, awards, etc. If someone cannot execute something as simple as proper spelling and grammar this late in life, my perception is that they just don't care and that individual immediately loses credibility. Just my opinion, what is yours?

When my former NCOIC handed me my very first counseling statement I took my red pen, edited the 4856 and handed it back to him without thinking anything of it.
My OIC and NCOIC started laughing and I asked "what's so funny?"

He said "what kind of *sshole edits their own counseling statement and then hands it back for corrections?!"

Since I am a photojournalist and served as the primary editor for our shop's articles, I assumed he wanted me to edit it lol.
It was pretty funny but the point is don't hand me some jacked up counseling!

I think those who constantly misuse words and refuse to expand their vocabulary should be forced to use only Newspeak.
Newspeak...where adjectives and adverbs are a forbidden luxury...ahhhh George Orwell predicted it so well with 1984...

I had a squad leader who was an absolute waste of oxygen. This guy was obviously incapable of passing his 600-9 standards, couldn't handle the smallest level of responsibility, and was all around a car-crash of a leader.

He counseled me once, and was talking about how I "needed to step my game up if I wanted to go to the promotion board," claiming that "wearing two rings for a male is wrong," "having your sideburns as low as possible while maintaining the standard is setting a bad example." Mortified by this, I took a red pen and metaphorically tore the counseling apart grammatically and so forth. He took the corrected 4856 to our platoon sergeant, and she later approached me, thanking me for brightening her day.

Needless to say, I went to the next promotion board, got promoted the following month, and he moved platoons because he didn't like it.

This is one of the funniest stories I've ever read. I think you may be the only service member who was more unpopular with superiors than me

I ran a spell Czech on this peace before I submitted it, sew it must be ere free. Know won kneads two learn grandma and spelling becaause wee all no how too type and trust Microsoft Word instead of Websters.

Writing used to take a level of time investment. Now it takes a couple of thumbs. Technology and Twitter have altered the course of communication, arguably, not for the better.

It bothers me that your title lacks punctuation and is an incomplete sentence. I'm going to go snap a carrot in half.

LTC Stephen C. I am the king of runon sentences and all sorts of things but I do not consider it a problem unless it is on a resume or a bid on EBay and if I happen to misspell a word I blame on it on PTSD even though I really have GAD which is another way of saying that I am jumpy and since when is that a crime or since when did punctuation matter anywho? lol

This is really a rather ambiguous situation. If you understand this, then no one is obliged to know or teach something. The more we live in the 21st century and have the internet and help services. As an option to write a college essay or other work you can now use https://paperell.com/buy-college-essay it will also help if you have grammar problems. Therefore, in today's world, I do not consider it a problem. Everyone knows different subjects better.
