There is only one thief in the Army. Everybody is just trying to get their stuff back. Have you heard this before?

The CAPT was relaying a story from one of her sites where she is an admin. She said a kid was turning in his/her Long Overcoat (Long O). A Long O is the long overcoat worn by West Point Cadets in the winter- You see them wear it at the Army/Navy game. So this kid goes to turn in the Long O and gets turned away because it has the wrong serial number. Cost the kid $700. Got me to thinking. Poor kid, probably just got it mixed up with someone else and now two kids will end up paying $700.

Not a problem in the Air Force, we are constantly getting new stuff that we are begging airmen to steal the old stuff.

If you have the item, and it is in a serviceable condition, they just have to do an Inventory Adjustment Report (IAR) to make the books match.

Concur LTC Mackay, I use a term 'know your craft' and logisticians who do not know and practice their craft create chaos in a disciplined system. It is well known saying that Operators Win Battles, Logisticians Win Wars, but when logisticians do not know and practice the discipline of their craft, they endanger not only the operators, but the mission as well. This story is yet another missed opportunity for a logistician to do the right thing,
