SSG James Elmore, Do not attempt to earn acceptance into the Warant Officer Cohort for the money, or for time off, or to not lead troops, or just to get saluted. Earning the right to being called Chief is not to be taken lightly. You are expected to uphold all the standards of a NCO and O-Grade Officer all while being your Command teams subject matter expert in your field. Once you become a Warrant Officer, you must continue to improve yourself both mentally and physically. Continue to train, continue to conduct PT, continue uphold all Army standards and regulations, continue achieve higher civilian and Military education and continue to learn and perfect your craft. Warrant Officers are 2% of the entire Army, are you ready?

Pay attention to your subordinates, as well as your peers and superiors. You'll need all the help you can get, especially from your younger troops. Pay attention to the comments by this other contributor. Seems to know the ropes. And for crying out loud, don't hesitate to get your hands dirty helping your troops.

CW3 Doyle Frost - Right on, hands dirty! That goes along way with the NCO's and Soldiers in your shop.

It's what I and my predecessor skippers demanded. Be prepared to be visible; a technical whiz in your specialty. You will visibly help the Command move forward with no member too small to give a hand up. WO's must be highly valuable and valued. I mentioned in another post that we call our WOs "Guns" on many occasions. That's an honorific. A lot of lives counted on the gunnery WO to get it right.

You should that it is a very competitive selection process. This is even more true now than ever before. Warrant Officers make up around 3% of the United States Army population. That in and of itself articulates just how tough it is. The Warrant Cohort takes care of its own like non other. The process it takes to become part of the 3% is very rewarding and we'll worth it IMO.
