I think it really depends on how you look at things man. I love being a mechanic so being a mechanic in the army for me at least is pretty awesome! I'm on my third deployment and all three I have been the lone mechanic so its really cool because I run the show maintenance wise. My only real knock on the life could be said about any mos, I butt heads with my current leadership so I'm working to get my points and get my time so I can get my 6 and stop taking crap from them haha but over all being a mechanic is a great but pretty dirty job if you do it right haha.

I could really use some advice! I’m leaving to fort Jackson in three weeks and have absolutely no experience with being a mechanic, but I really like the idea of it and ready to work hard, my question is what should I study before I leave for AIT? Or will I be taught everything there? Is there important information that I should know going into this job to help set me ahead?

Really depends on what unit you in. As a junior enlisted solider its ok. Just expect long ass hours and for 88M to run to run for every damn thing

I've talked to several individuals that had mixed feelings about it. Majority had no real issues.
