Are you in need of a break from caregiving for your wounded warrior in California, Florida, or Texas? Look no further! Thanks to the collaboration of CareLinx, the VA, AARP, Bob Woodruff Foundation, and the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, there is FREE non-medical respite for those who meet the eligibility requirements.
The program launches today in states most impacted by COVID-19, California, Florida, and Texas. Eligible military and veteran caregivers must apply through hiddenheroes.org/respite.
Selected caregivers will receive approximately 24 hours of respite care by qualified in-home care professionals. These professionals will be able to perform tasks such as grocery shopping, cooking, mobility assistance, transportation, bathing, and other activities of daily living. The Foundation will continue working to build the number of hours in the fund to expand the program across the country.
Eligibility requirements:
You must be a family caregiver to a wounded, ill, or injured veteran or service member.
Requested relief support should include one of the following: companionship, light housekeeping, grocery shopping and meal preparation, transportation, mobility support/transferring, exercise, toileting, bathing, dressing and grooming. Services such as assistance with administering medications, in-home physical therapy, or any other type of specialized medical care is not available at this time.
The military/veteran family must seek respite care relief in the zip codes of Florida, California, and Texas where services are available.
More information & the application can be found at hiddenheroes.org/respite.
Even as states begin re-opening, our nation’s veterans and caregivers will have a long journey back to the pre-pandemic world. We are grateful to CareLinx, VA, AARP, Bob Woodruff Foundation, and others who will join this collaboration for helping us ensure these families will not have to travel this journey alone.
