The Battle of Midway was a decisive naval battle in the Pacific Theater of World War II that took place between 4 and 7 June 1942, only six months after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor and one month after the Battle of the Coral Sea.

Midway was the point Japan lost the war. The loss of 4 carriers in one engagement removed the ability to project power, and threaten the west coast. They could no longer act in an offensive capacity. Hind sight being 20-20, Midway should have been taken immediately after Pearl Harbor, They had our Pacific fleet in disarray, and taking 7 months afterwards to venture east again gave the US too much time to recover.
