Looks like Fort Gordon will be the next move. Not so excited about the mosquitoes and humidity though. Any advice or recommendations from anyone whose done some time there?

I would not be disappointed at all about an assignment at Fort Gordon. Augusta, GA is a great small city with tons of amenities. Many Army installations are located in extremely isolated places (Hood, Riley, Polk, etc.). Being stationed in a city is fantastic.

Augusta is within a reasonable distance to Atlanta, and there are beaches within driving distance. You can easily get to Charleston, Tybee Island, and Jacksonville, FL. Gordon has great MWR recreation areas with lake access. There is tons of stuff to do, even if you are not an outdoors enthusiast.

Stay positive. Your experience at each post is always what you make of it. Fill you personal time with positive activities like fitness, travel, and college classes and things will be just fine!

Im here now and Augusta is definitely NOT a city. The good thing about here is that housing is cheap. You definitely can drive to some places like ATL and Savannah (like 2 hrs), FLA (Orlando in like 6hrs), SC or NC but there is nothing to do in Augusta unless you love golf. After a couple weeks you get bored. That been said, it’s a good place (depends you unit’s tempo) to start your civilian education.

Completely agree with SGT Rodriguez here. Doesn't really feel like a city, downtown Augusta is a pretty sad excuse for a city. Fairly run down, not much of a hub of activity that a true city offers. What you will find is cheap housing, not a ton to do, you will have to drive considerable distances for all the best activities. During my time we visited Helen in Georgia, that was a fun trip, lazy tubing on the river through town, German styled town with buildings and food to match. Tybee Island / Savannah were our favorite trips to make, Atlanta has its obvious attractions, we did that a few times as well.

I didn't have a problem with mosquitoes during my time there but the humidity does get pretty bad. Great place for a family, young single soldiers not so much. But there are much, much, much worse places you could end up at....
