Need advice on convincing BN and BDE CSM to release me to Instruct at Basic Leaders Course. How would you go about it? I will have one year PSG as SFC and will be at 18 years AFS.

I would just go squeeze hands and do a face to face. I would appreciate that for sure. Just be ready to explain your plan in detail.

I agree 100%. A Face to Face on a request like this will (should) eventually happen before the decision. I feel a respectful, well constructed email, (usually) will fall flat. If you're going to take up the CSMs time... do it through a verbal discussion, not a one way email.

I would respectfully send them an email, with the support of your 1SG asking them to
Support your decision with career progression. Then state how it befits the army, the brigade and the bin by bringing in well trained soldiers to continue on the mission of the Army and the unit.

MSG Tom Earley I am retiring at 20 and will not be actively pursuing MSG. I understand the notion that it would be career suicide.

SSG(P) (Join to see) - Are your BN, and BDE CSMs aware of this? To me if you have Topped Out as we used to say then if I were them I'd say best of luck and let you transfer.

MSG Tom Earley They will be when I approach them. I posted here to get some advice first. I want to be better prepared for this since I am sure it will be interviews in their office.

SSG(P) (Join to see) - I would just be plain spoken. Explain to them that you have reached a level in the Army that is where you want to be when you retire. You'll be freeing up an Infantry Platoon Sergeant billet for someone else who may have goals of 1SG, and CSM. You will still be able to have a positive impact on Soldiers at BLC until you retire.

Talk to your 1SG and then get on the CSM's calendar . You say you have one year rated time as PSG, what's the average time on position for a competitive 11B to MSG and is your BN at, or over strength. Where are you guys at in the deployment cycle. Those are things the CSM will be considering when deciding on thier recommendation or action.
