Hello everyone! I was recently selected for the newly initiated program as an engineer direct commission recipient. Anyone else been accepted for the recent board that met? Anyone know the process? I was notified of my tentative rank last week and was told it needs to go to HRC at the CoE under the direction of a 2-star. Any knowledge will be highly appreciated!

Welcome to the process of trial by fire. I got direct commissioned and was broadsided every step of the way after my selection.

Question: Have you conducted your Commission Medical Exam? Are the exam results less than 12 months old?

I don't know what problems are going to trip you up. They are different for everyone. What I do know is that in order to be commissioned every single pathway (ROTC, Academy, OCS, Green to Gold, Direct) has to jump through a series of hoops that all converge at the same destination. Commission.

Now, the great difference of DIRECT COMMISSION verses all the other paths is generally all the other paths are hand holding the candidate to the final destination of Commission.

So as your discussion here already alludes to is you don't know your next step. Someone said you were "selected" but you haven't yet been conferred a commission.

Generally, Chaplains, Doctors and Lawyers have this Direct Commission process figured out. I've not met a direct commission officer outside of those three branches not have trouble.

If you don't have your commissioning medical exam completed that's going to be your next biggest hurdle. Having to meet continuous medical exams requires time, appointments, qualified doctors with qualified tests, and an ever nearing hard deadline. Other administrative hurdles generally are simple in nature with quick turn around of document submission (largely dependent on your ability to act upon it).

Now, if you were ROTC, OCS, or Academy all that medical stuff would have been knocked out for you through MEPS in one single location in one day.

********
Where I would start if I were you is keep track of those HRC contacts, and what they last told you, and then pounce the day the next step HRC told you was to have been executed. Be professional about it, but keep bugging them the moment you do not know what the next step is.

My experience has been HRC will tell you the NEXT step, but they will not tell you ALL THE STEPS. So it seems like a continuous process without a finish line. You just have to keep jumping through the hoops.

I eventually did stumble upon the Army Regulations for Commissioning (ALL THE STEPS), but by then I had finished the gauntlet.

Thanks for the info! I have a little experience with the process from my ROTC days. Will I need to get any type of notification to show the medical staff that I need a Commissioning physical? Can I just go to a base near me and have the medical portion done preemptively? Will I need to fill in a Sf-86? I have an active clearance for my current position as an engineer. I have some contacts still from when I was going through the ROTC route so maybe I will see if they can get me in touch with the right people.

Supposedly the board met and they selected me and now it needs to go up to HRC for them to do a background check from what I gathered from the verbiage in the email.

I am incredibly excited and can’t wait to join the rest of you all as officers. This has been a goal of mine ever since I can remember and I want to be the best officer I can be.

Hello Jay. I was accepted as part of this engineer direct commission board as well. The information I've received so was has been somewhat vague but I believe this is due to it being a new process. Have you received any information recently?

I was told that within the next couple of weeks a recruiter is supposed to contact me for completion of the process and get me to MEPS. That is the last I’ve heard in over 1.5 months.
