What do think about Minnesota college students voting against honoring 9/11 victims, saying it’s offensive to Muslims?

RP Members is this another reason why should raise the voting age to 21? I was being sarcastic - sorry about that. Your thoughts and comments? By the way the college is still going to hold a moment of silence for the 9/11 Victims!

http://woundedamericanwarrior.com/minnesota-college-students-vote-against-honoring-911-victims-saying-its-offensive-to-muslims/

Students at the University of Minnesota killed a proposed moment of silence for 9/11 victims due to concerns that Muslim students would be offended.

Theo Menon, a Minnesota Student Association representative realized that the university wasn’t doing anything to memorialize 9/11.

So, on October 6, he introduced an MSA proposal to asking the university to institute a “moment of recognition” during the mornings of all future September 11ths.

The resolution in no way referred to Islam or to whether Islam itself is to blame for global terrorism. It did not require anyone to contemplate the fact that the terrorists responsible for 9/11 were Muslims. “It merely stated that 9/11 has had a lasting effect on many students, and ought to be reflected upon for a single moment, once a year.”

Yes, and they pre-supposed Muslims might be offended, as if all Muslims are, or feel, responsible for the 9/11 terrorism committed by a tiny percentage. The oh-so-PC college students use the same faulty logic as anyone who attempts to paint Islam with a single broad brush.

Unfortunately, we are seeing a trend that is sadly becoming the norm. We, as a society, have allowed the out-of-touch Liberals to lead us to this point. We have allowed history and science to be re-written and taught to our kids and grand kids without question or argument and this is the result. We, as a society, have determined to take discipline out of a childs rearing in fear that their character will be damaged. We have allowed the eliminaton of the teaching of morals and ethics, not only in our schools but in the home as well. With each generation, we want our children to "have more; do better than I had/did". All of these things have robbed our children of having a moral and ethical compass, a since of pride for this great country, a since of obligation to give back to society (now it's only take, take, take), a since of justice for those who do wrong against individuals and our country, a since of protection/defense against those who wish to harm or change the fabric of this great country. This country is rottening from within and unless we, the citizens, decide to make changes, we can guarantee that our individual freedoms will not last much longer. I will guarantee you, our grand children and great grandchildren will "give" this country away in the next two to three generations unless we change what we are teaching them and allowing them to be taught! We must guard freedom at all costs!

I am thoroughly disgusted they decided to eschew honoring 3,000 victims of 911. The are inadvertently rewriting history by omission. What is wrong with people now? Those SOBs want to disregard those who died on the planes, inside the building, and hundreds who jumped from the burning buildings due to the catastrophe they were facing. They were not fluttering pieces of paper, they were real people who knew death would be just a few seconds away. Instead, these bastards want to turn it into a vacuous moment in our history. Stupid SOBs.

Groups sometimes fail for various things like group think, a dynamic leader in the group, or maybe being prone to irrational thinking for magnanimous actions they think are revolutionary and chic.

Good for you for finding the right words! I was so upset I couldn't even start! I'm guess I'm a person with less words and more action. And I really try to refrain from that and keep myself out of trouble. After all I did fight for our freedoms and I'd like to stay free for as long as I can.

In a society where children are coddled indefinitely, sent to college with their parents debit card and driving a car they didn't buy, this is the inevitable outcome. Not honoring 9/11 victims for fear of offending those of one particular religion is asinine. What's next? Refusing to remember fallen veterans for fear of upsetting anyone of middle eastern decent?

It can be said that these students are free to celebrate what they wish and no one can force them to do otherwise, but where is the line drawn?

COL Ted Mc - "I suppose that we should close down all the "Holocaust Memorials" because we don't want to offend either the Germans (who say that there was one) or the White Christian Fundamentalists (who say that there wasn't one)."

REALLY?

SP5 Christine Conley - This generation of kids has some that are as bright if not brighter than those who went before them. Unfortunately the ratio is getting smaller and smaller and the bell curve is shifting toward the low end. We have an education system that teaches kids that it is perfectly okay to be mediocre because we don't want to offend the slow kids and make them feel bad. They are also programmed to believe that capitalism is bad and socialism is good. They are being taught to be followers, not innovators! And those who are white are taught that their ancestors are responsible for the evils in our country's past. Instead of encouraging competition we stress a competition free environment that makes everyone feel less stressed, because heaven forbid, we damage their fragile self-esteems.

Today's generation of children is the most self-absorbed, socially inept, and sexually active. Unlike the generations preceding them, this generation of kids does not apply themselves, and does not want to grow up. They don't want responsibility. The kids graduating college today have no assurance that they will find good jobs in the private sector, and many question whether it is worth going into debt for their educations when they are already in debt to the tune of $60,000+ for each individual in America. With only 2/3 of the work force gainfully employed, the burden on them is even higher; they are starting from behind. They have no idea why they should pay for our healthcare when they have no idea who is going to pay for theirs and those who can't pay are penalized! They are also the most confused having been told that they can be whatever sex they identify with.

I'm not as optimistic as you are that the kids coming out of school today are as equipped to handle LIFE. Our Democracy is only one generation away from failure, and I believe this generation will opt to give up their rights and freedoms in exchange for empty promises of security and prosperity.

Capt Jeff S. - Captain; Please do not attempt to improve on the words attributed to Socrates by Plato "The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers." - even though there is no existing evidence that Socrates said it.

In ancient times, the people in Italy complained about the youth not having respect, etc. They wrote about it on the walls in Pompeii... and they wrote a lot of other things.

http://www.pompeiana.org/Resources/Ancient/Graffiti%20from%20Pompeii.htm

Suffice it to say that while human nature hasn't changed in several thousand years, the specifics we are addressing have. Pffft.
