What do you think of the use of the US Flag in the distress position?

I've seen it a lot recently where people will fly the Flag upside down in the distress position including now with the pending results of the election. 4 U.S. Code § 8.Respect for flag states "The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property." Definitely a last resort measure. I recently inspected a foreign oil tanker that had mistakenly flew the flag upside down. The Coast Guard responded and ensured all was ok. The captain was chastised.

Sucks for countries like the UK, JAPAN, and France, etc... never in distress.

SSG(P) (Join to see), as confusing as things currently are, I don’t think it’s appropriate to display the flag in a state of ‘distress’.,,just my two cents
