Have to agree with the media on this one. Why do the law enforcement units involved need a uniform meant for use in the woods in the middle of the city and it often does discredit the Army and its soldiers because of what they do in our uniform. In years past I have seen police units wearing black or dark blue BDU type uniforms which would be perfectly acceptable.

A lot of it began when DOD started giving law enforcement surplus equipment, including uniforms.

DOD has been giving law enforcement surplus equipment and equipment (uniforms) which has been ‘phased out’ of active duty wear.

The point of the article was that Law Enforcement organizations are running around the Pacific Northwest cities wearing current issue Army Multi-cam or Scorpion uniforms, not "surplus equipment".

As a veteran and currently in my 22d year in law enforcement, I may be able to provide some insight. CW5 Jack Cardwell hit the nail on the head. For many law enforcement agencies, obtaining surplus military equipment is a cost effective way of supplementing their ability to respond to various situations. It's often about budgets and getting the most bang for the buck. My agency does not use military uniforms.
