My wife is currently enlisted and we have two children, she just finished AIT and we are now at Fort Hood living on post. I am interested in enlisting as well.

I called multiple DFAS offices and received confused and conflicting answers each time. Some told me I would receive without dependent rate during BCT/AIT, some told me I wouldn't receive BAH at all during any time that we are not cohabitating at the same post and that only my wife would receive the BAH.

Also, some DFAS offices told me if we live on post after IET that they would take both of our BAH to pay for it, and some offices told me that they'd just take the senior BAH and leave the junior enlisted with the 'without dependent' BAH rate deposited to their bank account.

My MOS TRADOC pipeline is nearly 10 months, this is a nearly $8,000 pay difference depending on the correct answer and I cannot get a consistent straight answer anywhere. I called all of the basic training post DFAS offices. What a nightmare that was over the past 2 hours.

They only take the with dependent rate while you live on post.

No, the source will get BAH when they get to their permenate station. My husband is in and I graduated AIT in January.
