Air Force Reportedly Orders Sweeping Probe Into Military Spending at Trump's Scotland Resort

The U.S. Air Force has ordered a sweeping review to look at military accommodations following reports of air crews making stops at at Trump Turnberry in Scotland, according to a new report.
Politico’s Bryan Bender and Natasha Bertrand reported Sunday night the review will cover active-duty, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve and concerns how the Air Force chooses accommodations during long flights.
The Air Force said the the decision to stay at the Trump resort would have been the result of “a multitude of factors,” including the lack of suitable lodging like a nearby military base, but it didn’t provide evidence that nearby hotels were more expensive or unavailable at the time of the stays at the Trump resort.
“The Air Force takes this very seriously,” an official told Politico.

Ok Ok OK...I read all of this and they did nothing wrong. They were crew resting there which is required by regulations. They booked their rooms under the Defense Travel System which is required, the rooms were under the allowable rate which saved the Governement money, and they were the ONLY ROOMS AVAILABLE for the night they were there that met the requirements even though they were 54 miles away from the airport. There were no special treatments, no special arrangements...everything was done above board and within DoD Travel regulations. Nothing to see here...move along folks.

And this week they've release the information from their investigation... From the article I posted it states:
“We reviewed the vast majority of the 659 overnight stays of Air Force crews in the vicinity at Glasgow Prestwick Airport between 2015 and 2019. Approximately six percent of those crews stayed at the Trump Turnberry,” the statement from an Air Force official said. “As a practice, we generally send aircrews to the closest, most suitable accommodations within the government hotel rate. The review also indicated that about 75 percent of the crews stayed in the immediate vicinity of the airfield and 18 percent stayed in Glasgow.”
Now, I'm not aware of a feature in DTS where it asks, "is this a Trump owned hotel, yes/no"... "Yes? Well, that would not be advisable due to "optics."" They picked that hotel because there were no other choices which met the requirements within a closer proximity of the airport. The deal with the airport and the hotel stays occurred before Trump ever ran for or became president. But you will never let it go because it's all about criticizing Trump. You got your AF investigation... Case closed. Nothing to see here but the unhinged who have to find fault with Trump for no better reason than the sake of doing it.

4. The aircrew found the hotel at the per diem rate and followed the JTR requirements.
5. The decision to use a Trump hotel, regardless of whether other hotels are available is their choice, so long as they are meeting the JTR and it fits the mission requirements while trying to be good stewards of the tax payer money. Hatred toward Trump is not a legitimate reason to ban government officials from using a Trump hotel.

One crew member was so struck by the choice of hotel — markedly different than the Marriotts and Hiltons the 176th maintenance squadron is used to — that he texted someone close to him and told him about the stay, sending a photo and noting that the crew’s per diem allowance wasn’t enough to cover food and drinks at the ritzy resort.

I'm calling BS on that one... Per Diem is ~$85 Meal and Incidentals there. I went ahead and looked at the menu of one of the on site restaurants (which he doesn't have to use by the way). He could have easily come in at or under his per diem (plenty of options under 15 Euros) unless he decided to go with lobster at 55 Euros a person.

MAJ Ken Landgren That’s irrelevant. This whole issue was brought up to criticize Trump (not saying you). In the end, the facts do not fit that narrative. Trump had nothing to do with it, the deal was set up before he even announced his run for President, and the Airmen acted responsibly. Now if you want to criticize the Air Force for using this location based on cost analysis, have at it. But I recommend you come up with facts and figures vs using speculation. Take note of the UK’s 24 hr operational hours locations and their quiet hour laws in certain locations.
