Good day everyone!

I am in a multi-cross road of choices in my career and sending out some feelers and start a discussion, get pros/cons, and input on what options I am looking at thus far. I have one more year til my reenlistment window opens and want to get back to the Army after being in the JS, as well as getting back to being Airborne (want/need that star on my wings.)

1. Regiment - Would allow me to get back to airborne, go to Ranger school, Jump Master, and Air Assault which are all things i want to accomplish. As well as a better chance for another deployment for more experiences.

2. DS/AIT PSG/SGL - I honestly would mind any of these, and in my mind DS sounds more rewarding and challenging, but know that any option would help with picking up SFC (how much would it help.)

3. Regular Airborne unit - Get back to being Airborne, likely in an S-2 NCOIC position which would give me more leadership time.

4? Any other options i should look for for career advancement?

Thank you all in advance, and have a great day!

WO1 (Join to see) You may as well face the facts and select Drill Sergeant rather than possibly being voluntold that you are going to be a recruiter.

Those assignments hover over anyone looking to better themselves.

You know what CSM Charles Hayden, that is exactly my reasoning to "want" DS is so I would not have to go recruiter. From everything I've heard and how I am, that just doesn't seem like a good fit at all ha.

WO1 (Join to see) To be fair, a recent conversation w/ a current recruiter was interesting!

He told me that Recruiting School and time on the streets has changed him into being more comfortable and confident with engaging people.

DS and after 2 years request an assignment of choice; after duking it out with your branch manager of course.

You’re an intelligence analyst looking at different possibilities to advance your career. Instead of “Just thinking what would be best for me” What would be best for the Army and me .. serve both needs/wants at the same time. Let them see that you want to put the Army needs first n the big picture and hopefully they see this selflessness and will work with you to achieve some of your goal. In the years i’d been in the AF I always tried putting the AF’s need ahead of my own. and let them see that. Eventually we came to agreement that both our need/want could work together..

Well technically any spot I fill is "helping" the army. Whether that be DS, regular unit, where I'm at now, etc. It all comes down to a spot being filled in that grade.

I love and always support the army (wasnt really wanting to PCS when I got my orders here, but the army said so and so I did) but I dont think you can "put their need above tour own". You have always got to still care and look out for yourself. Like the old saying of the only person that looks out for you is you.

However, with being on board and "ok" with DS I feel like that is supporting the army as you say with most people not wanting it.

But on that same note, there is actually a need for my MOS in ranger regiment (based off of current reenlistment tiers) meaning that would also be supporting the army.
