Who remembers fender skirts and why did they go away? Growing up my parents had a 53 Belaire and when dad washed the car my job was to take the skirts off, wash them and put them back on, learned to drive in that car. I've found articles on when the last production cars had fender skirts but nothing on why they went out of favor. Any RP family members know why?

No idea why they were discontinued. Some cars (like 57 Chevys) don't look right without them though.

I'm thinking that fancy wheels may have something to do with it. Even if cars have hubcaps they have good looking wheels.
