During the Eisenhower administration, the left was still the entrenched party of racism. Ike supported a Civil Rights bill that was filibustered by Al Gore Sr. and LBJ. Eisenhower was also the key to desegregation of the military and public schools. The ad campaigns they ran, like the attached video, was an attempt to show the humanity of black families to the public. How do you interpret the video, SGT (Join to see)?

I relate it more to how many blacks today prefer chrome 22-24" chrome "rims" and >$100 Nike Jordan's over paying for proper vehicle maintenance and cheaper yet comfortable shoes that are just as functional and durable.

I interpret it as a true statement that blacks come up in the USA yearning for a stable sense of equality and understanding of who they should be. I had to ask a lot of questions and make a lot of mistakes to get to the point where I realized sagging pants, music about money/sex/drugs/slums, and physical intimidation and harm for perceived power were all a waste of energy. I had proactively and aggressively seek what shouldn't have been less traveled paths to becoming that positive example of a black male that I've never had as a mentor in my life.

I think of the 2 mindsets to what the video states. On one side, brand shows financial capability for a style or trend. On the flip side, the combo of fashion and function is a messy path less talked about because of consumerism.

Many believe Jordan's last longer than my $60 Under Armour's. The sole of the shoe doesn't lie.

Many believe you need supplements or expensive equipment to make quality gains and A/V productions. But spending that money isn't a shortcut for the hard work put in to learning the craft.

What would you suggest I think about in regards to your age and wisdom?

I wouldn't want anyone to think any specific way, just share your thoughts. My personal belief is that Ike and his administration was just trying to alleviate any preconceived fears from the public without threats or telling people how to think. I don't care what people say or think, I care how they proactively carry out their daily lives, don't tread on me or others, as it were.

In the 30's blacks outnumbered whites in marriages. Untill the 60's when welfare took it's place.

SGT (Join to see) - I found the video interesting and an answer to stereotypes. I remember years ago being a young professional every body was talking about yuppies. I wondered what was wrong with me. I found out yuppies only made up 2% of the population, they were hyped. The black middle class has had the opposite, They were ignored. Not so much any more.
