Ha, ha my friend Lt Col Charlie Brown children have always been intrigued by challenges and when left to our own devices we tend to have loads of fun despite risks to life and limb :-)
Thank you my friend CSM Charles Hayden for mentioning me.

Lt Col Charlie Brown That pole on the right side with a kid sliding down? I recall attending a ‘company’ type picnic with such a pole in 1940? +-?
Ohio was slowly converting from a mainly rural state and rural style entertainment was still in vogue. The pole I recall was greased, any kid who was able to climb to the top got a prize! The next funny event was when the kids would chase a greased pig. (Actually a ‘Shoat’). Whoever was able to capture the pig was supposed to take it home.
My best western memory is from a county fair in Paso Robles, CA. A bunch of calves was released in the show arena. Then a bunch of teenagers were tasked with catching a calf and getting it to the judge’s stand. The boys were all busy wrestling a calf trying to get a semi-halter on it to lead them with. A teen age girl grabbed a calf by two legs, threw it to the ground, got a rope on it and led the calf over to claim the prize $ !
