Is it possible to enlist active duty directly into 38B or do you have to go through specific training in a different MOS?

I did look on the GoArmy website, but I’m a little confused on what the requirements are? I’m 24, newly enlisted, no college degree or anything. I have a GT score of 97 so I know I have to get that up to either 107 or 110, if I’m correct. Is it like a normal MOS where you go through basic training and AIT, then your regular duty station as a 38B?

You have to be an E-4/Specialist to put in a packet for CA as an active duty soldier. This can be completed in 18 months starting from an E-1. So to answer your question you have to be another MOS first, then reclassify into CA. I would study and take the asvab again now rather than waiting till you’re at a unit

Exactly what I was looking for thank you! I’m just torn between the asvab. If I should continue trying to take it or wait until I’m in and take the GT improvement class.

See if you can take an GT Improvement Class, I did and went from 105 to 120. Best route to get the options that you want.

Ashley Nicole "GT" score doesn't matter, you have to look at your "ST", I think it needs to be 100.

Active duty CA requires you to attend a selection after you have some experience in your current MOS.

Ashley Nicole it's not really important what MOS, there are rank and time in service requirements that take a few years to meet.

Are you interested in Army Reserves or Regular Army (active duty). For Reserve Soldiers you can enlist directly into the MOS. Regular Army, unless it changed, you cannot. In the active component, 38B is an in-service progression. Meaning you’re already experienced in another MOS and then contact the ARSOF recruiter -which I commanded like 10 years ago- and then is selected you go for training.
Nevertheless, your best bet is to contact a recruiter and get the latest and greatest!

MAJ Javier Rivera yeah that’s what he said. I got a 51 my first try. I didn’t know if just because it was considered passing that I wasn’t allowed to re test or not.

The 51 is probably your AFQT Ashley Nicole. That’s the score to get you in. With 51 you are a IIIA which is good. Bonuses and other goodies start there when available. Then you have the other line scores. Those are to get you qualified. Now, you probably didn’t think about it but each time you seat to take the test it comes with a price tag. Yes, it costs money. Hence why there are no second chances once you pass the test. Once in the service then is different, we want you to be successful!!!
