The answer is no. (Does that mean I agree or disagree?) My response is based on meeting with the public to trade Buddy Poppies for donations. I've done this on both Memorial Day and Veterans Day. The vast majority of people look at the Buddy Poppy like it's an alien object straight out of Flash Gordon and I have to explain (my explanation varying according to the holiday)

Thanks for the reply sir. I've found that to be partially generational. In my experience, Millennials are widely aware of the differences as we grew up during a perpetual period of war. The Silent Generation and Boomers are very aware. Gen X and Gen Z seem to be clueless.

2LT Kyle Brooks. The parents should take responsibility for something in there children’s life. Teaches certainly will not. That isn’t a teachers job.

It's OUR responsibility to educate those who know no difference. Memorial should be the key word here. "In memory of"
Versus Veteran's Day. Those who have or are Serving. AND, Memorial Day was 1st a Remembrance Day for those of the Civil War. I've read saying after a mass grave of Union Soldiers was re-buried in proper graves by then former slaves. See Civil War history to confirm.
