I attended a college with a campus in the heart of the city (Baltimore). When I visited traditional campuses, I was amused at the difference. The way we dressed. The way we walked. The way we talked. Everything was as different as night and day. We were immersed in reality. They were living in a world apart where the theoretical could be presented as factual and nothing belied their errors. Communism (as well as all other forms of socialism) flourish in fantasy land. They appear laughable in the harsh light of reality. Thus, I propose that you select a college for yourself or your children based on location...

We were having a discussion today about this topic. College isn't for everyone. If you like to build or fix or anything in the trades, don't go to college. Find a vocational or trades program or an apprenticeship. You won't get that training in most colleges. Later on, if you decide you nerd courses in running a business, perhaps, then go.

Lt Col Charlie Brown, Thank you ma’am. Or they could do what kids did in my era and join the service and get trained in a specialty.

Thank you for the correction Sgt. Keith Bodine. 905 views and you are the first one to point that out. Also, to Col Charlie Brown please excuse me ma'am for the the mistake in grammar. Won't happen again now that someone has properly informed me.

Absolutely agree. There is a great demand for skilled labor. A person with a certificate or associate degree in construction, plumbing, HVAC, electrician, welding, machinist can probably find a job a lot faster than an English major--worse yet Gender Studies.

Most of what he states is spot on! ESPECIALLY the part about living in the REAL WORLD (tm) for a few years to get a dose of reality & maturity before subjecting yourself to academia.

The military is great dose of reality.

I thought so too Wayne. I have a granddaughter graduating from UT this year with a degree in film and documentary reporting. She’s been an intern for a production company in Austin the past three years. I hope she does well. I have a grandson who got a full, four year ride to Texas Tech after graduating last year. So far this year, he went to TT, stayed a couple of months, dropped out, and moved back home. All he does now is sleep all day and pretend he’s looking for a job. He wouldn’t make it through boot camp orientation. Sad but true.

My daughter had a four-year free ride basketball scholarship at Gonzaga (Spokane WA)...

Turned it down because she didn’t want to leave CA...

Now she’s a legislative aid in Sacramento...

Oy! The shame of it all...
