Can someone be a "twice awarded Combat Infantry Badge recipient" from different wars (Korea & VN)?

There were several infantrymen awarded the CIB three times including CSM Plumley of "We Were Soldiers Once and Young" fame. He was awarded them for WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. EdITED. CSM Plummet was awarded a second award in his official files, but there are pictures of him wearing a third award.

SFC (Join to see) - To be fair, recording keeping during WWII and Korea was not exactly state of the art and a many a soldier that should have awards don't have them on their official records. When you add the fact of the Fire at HRC St Louis, a lot of information is gone.
As an example, my Father was diverted to fly in the Berlin Airlift, but his home base never received orders on the deployment.
If someone wants to quibble with the guy that made at least two glider jumps about not being qualified for a CIB because he was in an Artillery Unit as a scout, be my guest.

CPT Lawrence Cable it’s not a quibble. It has been proven that he wore a CIB with 2 stars but should have only worn a CIB with 1 star. He wore the award way before the fire at HRC.

SFC (Join to see) The dispute about Plumley's ribbons didn't start until 2015, after he had been dead for a couple years. The fire in 1974 damaged or destroyed Army records from 1927 through 1960, the periods in question. His DD214 lists award that the current records can verify, although his DD214 only indicates one star. The man has enough verified awards that I am inclined to give him a break given the record keeping in the eras involved.

Just remember, if you see anyone with a 3rd Award (a CIB with 2 stars) they're like 99.99999% a phony BSer. There is a very small, prestigious list of 3rd Awardees and they would all be well into their senior years now.

As you can see by my last two posts, there are 4 qualifying periods, and only one CIB can be awarded for each of the qualifying periods. it does not matter how many deployments or times spent shooting during any qualifying period.

Yes, as long as they meet the criteria for two different award periods. Korea and Vietnam would be legit. More than one star is tracked by the Infantry Museum. There are like five or six left. AR 600-8-22 page 97 of the 2015 regulation:
(e) Servicemembers from the other U.S. Armed Forces and foreign military (infantry and SF equivalents) assigned or attached as a member of a U.S. Army infantry or SF unit of brigade, regimental, or smaller size may be considered for award of the CIB. All basic requirements as listed above must be met. Retroactive awards under these criteria are not authorized for service prior to 18 September 2001.
c. The CIB is authorized for award for the following qualifying wars, conflicts, and operations (see para 8–6g on subsequent award of the CIB):
(1) World War II (7 December 1941 to 3 September 1945).
(2) Korean War (27 June 1950 to 27 July 1953).
(3) Republic of Vietnam Conflict (2 March 1961 to 28 March 1973) combined with qualifying service in Laos (19
April 1961 to 6 October 1962).
(4) Dominican Republic (28 April 1965 to 1 September 1966).
(5) Korea on the demilitarized zone (DMZ) (4 January 1969 to 31 March 1994).
(6) El Salvador (1 January 1981 to 1 February 1992).
(7) Grenada (23 October to 21 November 1983).
(8) Joint Security Area, Panmunjom, Korea (23 November 1984).

Review the 2019 version, a number of the items listed above are subsets for the period of the award. for instance, in LTC Egan's example above, the Soldier who may have earned the award for Grenada, could only earn a second one as part of GWOT

LTC Jason Mackay So basically those troops that ended up doing 3/4 or more tours in Afghanistan or Iraq and saw combat are only authorized 1 CIB for all their tour's? Saying of course that they met all the criteria in each deployment.

SGT Tim. Wilson - What going on brother from another mother A Co. 1-5 CAV 11Blood Ft. Hood, TX. I did 13 years and was awarded the second award on my CIB during my 3rd tour and lost my brothers to an IED, it basically took out my platoon leaving us with 5 including myself. And still fighting with VA about my disability claim of PTSD been fighting with them for years and I think that I might get a break this time, hopefully.
