It works for some people, but I prefer a good IWB holster, which I carry at the 4:30 position. I have holsters from Alien Gear, Tulster, Concealment Express, and We The People, and they are all good holsters. I also have a couple of Blackhawk CQC OWB holsters for the situations when I can open-carry.

I have an Alien Gear shape-shifter rig I can use IWB or OWB and a few crossbreed IWB's for 2 of my firearms depending on the season and situation. However, I have a cheap nylon IWB I use more often because my pickup's EDC makes it convenient since I rarely venture out.

My current rig is a CYA Kydex IWB holster "strong side", with DFW Kydex IWB mag carrier on"weak side". I index vertical, right in front of my face... so this is the shortest distance from zero to hero for me. I'm experimenting with some old wetsuit neoprene hot-glued to the "body side" of the mag carrier... might reduce the "digging in" somewhat.

LCDR Joshua Gillespie I have tried carrying my spare mag IWB, but it digs in too much, so all of my mag carriers are setup OWB with a forward cant and the bullets pointing to the rear.

SGT Steve McFarland - Good stuff. I actually ended up carrying "projectile forward"... when I reach with my left, and come up to the well... it just saves a stitch in time for me personally to already have the rounds facing the right way. Like I said though... whatever "works" is "right".

Alright-so here's why I'm asking. For YEARS I was taught the only "right" thing was whatever "works for you"... with the "nod-nod-grin" suggestion that what BETTER work for you is Kydex, IWB, for both handgun and spare mags. I've dutifully followed that advice ever since. I'm a pretty trim guy, so things "fit" well with this system, and I carry my handgun at the 4 o'clock, with the spare ammo on the "weak" side, about 10 O'clock. Trouble is, I've started to develop a permanent "mag bruise" around this area (not much "padding" there), and have been looking into more comfortable options. I use a "belly band" for exercise (running/gym/etc.) so I can carry while not having a belt... but I've been wondering if this would work equally well for EDC, under some circumstances-especially during the summer when I normally don't wear an undershirt. I would generally think the "risks" would be ND due to "soft" trigger protection... but with my M&P compact, I'm not too worried. Reholstering would be a no-go, but then again... I'm not really worried about swapping from carbine to pistol while I'm CCW anyway. Just wondering what the RP community thoughts are... NOOB trash, or a viable option for comfort.

I always carry my spare mag OWB because I don't like the mag and carrier poking me.

I have a couple of them from Crossbreed, but they just don't work for me. I wish they did because I do like the idea of them. If it works for you, more power to you. And I do envy you a little.....

You're right. Whatever works for you, and properly secures the gun, works. But having the gun and the spare mag on the same side never made sense to me.

Yeah-that doesn't work for anyone I know... it also (in my opinion) doesn't work for any sort of tactical reload.

Tony as long as you can get to the mags with both hands it’s fine. Remember this is for concealed carry. If you’re reloading from an off-duty concealed handgun, you are in deep doo-doo.
