There's a lot we aren't told because it doesn't support the narrative. Check out who the first "owners" of an African-American chattel slave were (prior to that "slavery" was for a set period and was either a voluntary indenture to pay back the cost of the passage to America, or part of the punishment of exile for crimes that would otherwise be punished by hanging or worse in the homeland).
