Aside from the usually partisan (and superficial) comments regarding LTC (R) Vindman, is there a lesson to be learned here? We had a sitting US senator holding up promotion for 1000 senior officers to allow for his promotion. Whistleblowing. Polarizing politics and the politicalization of the military seems to be here for the duration. While the retired could easily just take pot shots from Ft. Living Room, here's my question. How can currently serving members truly remain apolitical? In a world where one callus post can end your career, use some judgment if you elect to weigh in. Was he right? Would you have done the same? Was he dead wrong?

So.......
The LTC was right to report his concern. However, what transpired was a circus that placed the military in the middle of a political firestorm. The LTC should immediately been removed from his position and sent back to the Pentagon for his and the Army’s protection. As a service member, working in that political arena, you have to be cognizant of your actions and how they effect DOD, your service, and you. His supervisor shouldn’t have waited for the White House to make the move. That office should have made the move immediately. Perception is reality and once he lost the perception of being apolitical he was of no use to the Nation in that position. If you are going to fall on your sward and expect to get bloodied. The Senator was wrong to not understand how punishing innocent service members to make a political point and to not understand why the LTC has to be removed. She displayed exactly the opposite of leadership and I for one am glad she is no longer in our formation. Every rotten apple creates more rotten apples. She has terrible leadership, if you can even call it that, qualities. She proved to be a military user, not a defender.

Amazing every bit of traditional morality in the United States is dead on arrival. On another note we have a celebrity receiving over a half a billion is US dollars in 0ne year for being just being a celebrity.

LTC Tom Barbeau - I listened to every bit of it, I also listened to comments made by his immediate superior while he was in Germany, and how he the immediate superior had been discouraged from giving him a bad OER, which had he done so Vindman would never have made LTC or placed in the White House. More than likely when his next evaluation came up he would have been pink slipped out as a Major.

Need to keep only the Chief of Staff and such coordinating with the politicians. He was looking for a promotion and job with the Democratic Party or some Lobby Group.

Military personnel in politically aligned positions should always have a secondary CoC to bring their political issue concerns to. Becoming involved with a political issue should not be tolerated.

Our oath is to the Constitution, not an individual. Show me one place in that oath that says we have to cover up for the CinC. This LTC was honoring his oath and this nation. Trump caused his poor treatment.

We take an oath to support and defend the Constitution, but we also have our chain of command! The President, as you are aware, is the tippy top of that chain. When it comes to making a stand, deciding on with whom we choose to pick a fight, albeit based on a Congressional Subpoena, you are sworn to tell the truth, the “WHOLE TRUTH.” One might say Congress called upon him based upon his whistleblowing, or one can say he was called upon because he had a biased reason to testify. Regardless, his testimony was questionable at best, he was shown to be biased, and do agree there was a case for UCMJ action. I think Vindman was lucky, and was given a gift with his retirement.

LCpl Danny Chavez Really, and what was that? Have you forgotten, it was not President Trump that engaged with China, or the Ukraine. In fact, it was the Obama Administration that did, and the impeachment, well, we find out afterwards all the news about
what the Obama Administration had actually done. It’s always after the fact that we find out the truth! As with Vindman, he acted treasonously, and he should have faced UCMJ. He was provided a gift with his retirement. Vindman has no stones, I have more stones then him, because honor means everything to me, and it should also mean that to active military. People with honor have no need to lie, as did Vindman, his testimony was hearsay, at best, that he actually could not hear! So paint him as a hero, but history will show he was no better then Benedict Arnold. I say this as a person that watched every minute of Vindman’s testimony, he acted like a little ass hat! Also, President Trump was acquitted of all charges! So Vindman accomplished nothing but embarrassing himself, and the military!

Spc Karen Bowerman,
First of all, trump was not acquitted, the charges were whitewashed and furthermore the true traitor is Benedict Donald not Ltd Vindman, maybe you need to back off on the cool aid but with your mindset I think you have already done irreversable brain damage,I hope you get the help you need.

It has nothing to do with oath to the Constitution rather than the person who is president. Vindman is an LTC hired to a particular job. The President is his boss. The Constitution also says the President makes foreign policy. LTCs are not mentioned in it nor do they set policy. The President can by 100% wrong, but we do it his way because he is the decision maker. This guy set the Army up to ridicule and was used as a political pawn by others trying to belittle one person. No matter which party you are or whether you like this guy or not, it was not within the LTC's job description. He should have been disciplined, but he got away scot free. He'll be well compensated by the other side.

SGT Tim. Wilson I won't get into name calling with you, but if Vindman had a problem with Pres Trump's agenda with regard to Ukraine, there were proper channels to go through. It's called "chain of command", I'm sure you've heard of it. Vindman's actions and testimony did not "defend the Constitution" and it didn't offer any evidence of wrongdoing by Pres Trump or his administration on the phone call with Pres Poroshenko. There was no "quid pro quo" during the call.
Can't say the same thing about VP Biden's visit in 2016. Biden boasts about this himself in a 2018 Q&A. He withheld $1 billion in loan guarantees so that Pres Poroshenko would fire the prosecutor looking into Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company that his son, Hunter, sat on the board of. Biden famously said "Son of a bitch, they fired him" and they got their $1 billion.

SrA Jason Adams Whether he used his CoC or just went to his IG doesn’t really matter. He reported what he believed was a serious wrong. And yes trump had already held up Ukraine’s money and was basing the release of those funds on the Ukrainian President announcing an investigation into Hunter Biden and Burisma! Not an investigation into Joe Biden but his son so that he (trump) and his people could then spin it around to discredit President Elect Biden. Hell they were already starting that smear campaign, so everyone knows this was not any spur of the moment streak of brilliance on trumps part! And this was all public knowledge about the smear campaign, so the LTC reported it to the IG, fine that is what they are there for. As for the CoC, there were plenty of times when I was in when troops from other squads and platoons would come to me for assistance bc their immediate CoC was not working for them.
As for the aid to Ukraine, when did they get it? The day after this whole thing hit the news! And that was verified by Congress! When Ukraine should have had that money within a week of trump signing the bill authorizing the money which was like 6 weeks or something before the phone call! Sorry I can’t remember the time frame right this second but I know that Ukraine should have had the money authorized and trump signed long before the phone call!

CAPT (Join to see) - What seems to have been forgotten by many on this thread is that the military does NOT make foreign policy!
