Whether it worked or not, that's just bad leadership. As leaders, we're supposed to praise in public and discipline in private.

Public humiliation breeds fear, not respect. Fear isn't going to get you the desired results. It causes "restraint" instead of "boldness." It makes people do the absolute minimum instead of striving for the maximum.

"Good Initiative, Bad Judgement" butt-chewings are all about that. We want boldness. We want people trying too hard. Public humiliation is counter to that. Get a leader that lights someone up in public and you don't try at all for them.
