The army has had a field jacket since before WWII (I think the "Parsons" came out in 1938), and I know they made them in the UCP pattern, but I have yet to see one in the new pattern(s). Do we know if they're planned or if they got scrapped from the dufflebag list? That said, will I be allowed to a.) private purchase one or b.) wear my BDU/UCP one with FRACUs/OCPs?

Highly doubtful. I've got about 5 years in and I've only seen one, in UCP, at a yard sale. I think it was scrapped when the army went to its current Gen III ECWCS.

I have a UCP M-65 Field Jacket. I got it issued at Fort Benning CIIF in 2007 when I went to BCT there. It is definitely a conversation starter whenever I wear it.

It makes me a little sad that they scrapped it. Personally, I prefer it over wearing layers and layers of the ECWCS crap they have now. I absolutely dislike the fleece in the field.

I'm out now but I kind of wish they brought these back. I still have my BDU M65

All I know is the people who have one wear it whenever they can and hate the new stuff. I don't like too much extra gear, but good gear is awesome to have and use. I'd like to see it come back.

Field jackets were phased out indefinitely with the switch to OCP.
