June is PTSD Awareness Month. Here are just a few important facts to know about PTSD:
1. Not all veterans or military members have or will ever develop PTSD. Actually, according to the National Center for PTSD, only about 11-20% of those who served in OIF or OEF have PTSD in a given year.
2. PTSD is not a "veteran only" issue; it can affect anyone that experiences or witnesses a life-threatening or traumatizing event. This includes adults, children, veterans and civilians alike!
3. PTSD is NOT a weakness, but left untreated it can certainly impact many areas of one's life. The good news is...
4. PTSD treatment works. There are many evidence-based treatment options for PTSD. The most important step is to reach out for help if you need it. The sooner you get treatment, the sooner you can get back to better.

Do you know the genesis? I ask as a clinical psychologist. And how does it impact your overall functioning?
